Phloenchit is one of the most precious areas in the city of Bangkok. The site is conveniently located 800m away from the Phloenchit BTS station. Khun Kanika, the client, tasked us with developing a unique compact apartment targeting expatriates living and working in Bangkok. Due to the costly land price of the site, the aim is to maximize the rentable area while simultaneously making the room function efficiently for the target occupancy. The objective of our design was to conceptualize a building that is well-ventilated and sustainable while simultaneously making the tenants feel at home. We achieved this by constructing a facade made up of unique specialized windows designed to create cross ventilation from the unit windows to the opening in the corridor. Privacy was a top priority as well since the site was located close to the pedestrian sidewalk. This issue was tackled by producing a parametrically designed roof and fence on the first floor. The overhang in front of the lobby is constructed with a special roof panel that is arranged in a manner that allows sunlight to reach the vegetation below while maintaining the privacy of the people the rooms above. Kanika Suites is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
