HOTEL ATMOS
Hotel Atmos is a 52 keys hotel situated in the popular tourist city of Pattaya. The site itself is a few 100 meters off the quieter coast of Jomtien and is the visual centerpiece for the open-plan upper viewing platform. All 52 units in the hotel are one-bedroom apartments, which is the most optimal floor plan to maximize spatial usage in the oblong, narrow site plan. Ventilation is a major key aspect in this project, as the client desired a structure that is well ventilated and adaptive enough to respond to wind from all directions. As a result, strategically placed openings along the facade and windows in each room are oriented and aligned with each other to produce passageways for the wind to pass. In addition to this, ventilation is vertically integrated through the placement of a courtyard on the ground floor that cuts to the top of the building. The combination of horizontal and vertical passageways allows for multidimensional ventilation throughout the entirety of the building. Each room is fitted with windows facing the exterior and the courtyard, allowing each room to be ventilated as well. The facade of the building is comprised primarily of a concrete base lined with aluminum cladding that creates a good balance between privacy and openness, adding to the versatility of the structure. The viewing platform on the top of the hotel provides a 360° view of the Jomtien coastline and landscape, with various seating areas and a pool. The courtyard is inhabited by vegetation to animate ventilation and introduce green visual elements to the interior space. The way the courtyard cuts through all 7 floors of the building allows all residents the opportunity to overlook the courtyard. The 2nd phase of the project will expand the area to include a villa resort built behind the hotel, increasing the scope of the project.
