This project is comprised of two different types of spaces. The first space is a one-story retail building facing the street front. The second space is a two-story residence containing 3 bedrooms and one big double ceiling living room in the center. The dichotomy between the two spaces challenged us to create one space that is open to the public while keeping the residential space private. As a solution, we introduced a double facade system allowing the inhabitant of the house to dictate their level of privacy, while also increasing the height of the retail area slightly to block the view of the residence from the street. The facade, while private, still has an array of gaps that allow sunlight to penetrate the building as well as a skylight that allows sunlight to flood the center of the house. In terms of ventilation, a double roof system was employed to create a stream of wind to aid in heat transfer, cooling the building.
